Grand Adventure
Last night we decided to go on a little impromptu adventure to the GRAND CANYON ! We packed up our little car (which is still running in perfect condition BTW, minus the rattle when you drive slower than 60 mph haha ) and drove up to the Grand Canyon.
This was the first time any of us had been to the Grand canyon I struggle to find words to capture the beauty and majestic view of this place. I walked down the pathway leading toward the South Rim which over looks the Canyon and I just felt so overwhelmed and started to cry. It didn’t even look real, but as though I had walked into a painting. There were mountains on top of mountains and canyons overlaying canyons and every 100 feet we walked, a new and different cavern was revealed. I didn’t think my eyes could see any further, and then way in the distance, thousands of feet down,at the very bottom, i saw what looked like a pond, which I discovered was actually the river flowing through. The intricacy of the layers of rock was breathtaking. The pictures don’t even come close to viewing this spectacle in real life. We walked the rim for 4.5 hours, we didn’t even cover 1/100 of the canyon. According to one of the tour guides, the Grand Canyon is over 4,000km long when all stretched out! We probably covered 15-20km in walking distance with the kids
The Grand Canyon Park National Parks Service offer shuttles at certain check points to bring you back to the area that you parked. Also the whole walk is paved which is great for any one who needs wheel chair accessibility.
I’ve read many posts about how it’s too dangerous To go with children, However, as long as you are keeping to the path you will be fine. There are some fenced areas along the way and some areas you need to be more careful. But as long as you don’t try and take pictures on the edge of the cliff( like the girl in the last picture) you will be okay. Apparently 4 people die every year- pretending to fall off, and then they actually do… We saw lots of this too! eeek!
After our fun filled day, and sore legs we drove down to a little town called Williams to stay the Night. Williams is about an hour directly South of the Grand Canyon, and is the ABSOLUTE cutest town! Its population is 3,000 people and they have done such a good job of preserving the History aid this old western town.
If you have ever seen the Disney movie Cars, the movie gathers great inspiration for that film from this town. Williams is part of the historic and famous Route 66 highway that spreads from LA to Chicago and was the last town to be by passes by the interstate 40.
So here I am now laying in our quaint little hotel room while my whole family is asleep ( one of the only “me” times I get these days) and I feel so full in my heart. Ive realized that I get so filled up by being out in nature and explaining the beauty of creation and the history of different landscapes, cultures and monuments. I love doing and sharing these experiences with my family and try to articulate what God does in my heart through his creation. There is so much intricate details of even one rock, and that much more in. 4000km long canyon! At one point I was gazing over a huge part of the canyon, the bright blue sky, with the sun shining into the shaded part, and there were eagles flying around just circling this canyon. It was majestic and beautiful and I don’t see how people can walk away from that and not believe it was created, by a creator, by My Lord! Thank you for this gift of creation that we get to experience and gaze upon daily.
